Gymnastics.

December 29, 2007 / by newyorker

So, I'm a gymnast.
I have practice 5 days a week.
Each practice lasts two and a half hours. Vault, Floor, Beam, and Bars are the 4 events, for those who are not as knowledgeable about this Sport.  Yes, Gymnastics is a sport. It's not Dancing. And it's not Yoga. Some people I know seem to think anyone can do gymnastics.
That's true. As long as your flexible. And willing to work under the grueling circumstances.
To be a gymnast you have to be strong. Physically and mentally.
Just like
Emily. [I'll get to her later]
To be a gymnast you have to have fun while doing it.
Just like Stephanie. [I'll also be getting to her later]
To be a gymnast you have to cheer for your team mates.
Just like Jalice. [I'll be getting to her and a lot of other people.]
To be able to succeed in this sport you have to believe in yourself. You have to be confident in what your doing.
There are 13 girls on my team. Even though I didn't mention all of them by name they are all special and unique.
There's Amy, Kaleena, Betsy, and Megan who are all new to gymnastics this year, a couple have had some experience with it before, and the others are totally new to it. It's only two months in and they've all advanced so much. When they started they could barely do a cart wheel, now it's like they could do cart wheels in their sleep.
Then you have Monika and Shana who've been in gymnastics before and are super good. Shana is the best freshman on the team. Actually, she's the second best on the team. Monika is super graceful it doesn't matter if it's floor to bars or to beam she's always graceful.
Moving on to Heidi and Ayla. They both add a sparkle to the team. They just crack me upp. Ayla with her Hel-low's and Heidi's let's kick some butt attitude together they could throw an awesome party.
Following up the party gang we have Stacie. She's always complaining on how people never spell her name right. I guess I didn't know there was that many ways to spell Stacie.. Anyway. She's the friendliest person on the team I'd have to say. When I started my freshman year, and she was a sophomore; she was the only one on the team who talked to me. [That was older I should say.] And we became the best of friends. We still are.
As previously mentioned.. Emily. Stephanie. Jalice.
Emily  [Or as I like to call her Emmers] is the senior this year. I look up to her. A lot. She can be kind of mean when you first meet her, but that's just the cover, when you get to know her better and she warms up to you, she's really nice. She's an amazing gymnast. She does a standing back tuck on beam and I'm scared to death to watch each time she does it. In the end I'm usually glad I watched, because then I can yell "Good job Emmers! Way to stick that Tuck!" Hah. :P
Stephanie is just fun to know. She's the funniest person I think I have ever met. She knows how to have a good time; no matter what we're doing even if it's 100 crunchies, or 50 push ups she always has a way to lighten the mood. Sometimes she sings some goofy song she knows, or she'll say something totally random. No matter what we always have fun.
Jalice is also new to the team this year, right now she's not competing any events, not because she's not good, just because she doesn't have any routines. Jalice is the nut ball out of the new comers. Not in a bad way. In a good way. She always cheers everyone on when they start an event. It's good to have someone like her on the team.
This is what my team looks like. We're not always gung-ho to be with everyone everyday for two hours a week but we get over that. Sometimes it takes longer then others, but we always manage to surpass it.

Yeah. We rock. We're going to win our next meet. We're going to dominate!
